In compliance with the Governor Abbott's executive order:
During Governor Abbott's press conference on March 22, 2020 at 3:00 pm.
In his new executive order, that goes into effect immediately, Governor Abbott is requiring all Texas-licensed health care professionals to postpone all medical procedures, including dental procedures, that are not medically necessary until midnight April 21, 2020. There are penalties for failure to comply.
Governor Abbott's order requires dentists to delay until midnight April 21, 2020,... 'all surgeries and procedures that are not immediately medically necessary to preserve a patient's life or avoid adverse medical consequences.'
Immediate emergency dental care includes (1) uncontrolled bleeding, (2) cellulitis or a diffuse soft tissue bacterial infection with intra-oral or extra-oral swelling that potentially compromise the patient's airway, and (3) trauma involving facial bones, potentially compromising the patient's airway. ADA examples of urgent dental care include (1) severe pain from pulpal inflammation, (2) pericoronitis or third-molar pain, and (3) abscess, or localized bacterial infection resulting in localized pain and swelling.
